TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Law enforcement lined the entrance of Visalia First Assembly, to pay their respects to Deputy Randy Hoppert, as his American flag draped casket was escorted into the church.

The 36 year-old Tulare County Sheriff's deputy, was shot and killed in the line of duty nearly three weeks ago.

"There are a lot of emotions going on with a lot of the staff planning for this event. I think it helps to bring a bit of closure and the beginning of some healing," expresses Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux.

On April 9th, Detective Hoppert was responding to a call for support after officials say a 59 year old, started firing shots at deputies.

The routine eviction notice in Porterville, led to Detective Hoppert's death when he responded to the scene and was struck by gunfire.

He passed away at a nearby hospital leaving behind children and a pregnant wife.

"Ashley has spoken to many of our personnel explaining that she wants them to remember him and grieve, but also to move forward, and I think tomorrow's going to be the beginning step of that," expresses Sheriff Mike Boudreaux.

On Monday, a motorcade of over a dozen law enforcement vehicles escorted the hearse that carries Detective Hoppert's casket from a Visalia funeral home to Visalia First Assembly.

The same will happen on Tuesday morning, as public funeral services will be held.

The community is invited to show their support as the officers give their final salute to the dedicated deputy.

"When we see people on the side of the road that have taken time out of the day to line the streets and bring their children and hold up American flags, it really resonates with us that we are in the right job doing the right thing for a community who cares and when we see that we appreciate it," expresses Sheriff Boudreaux.

Visalia First Assembly remained open to the public until 7 p.m. on Monday.

The community is welcomed here today and tomorrow, for the funeral services.

Hundreds of people are expected to show up.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Boudreaux shares that the 36 deputies on leave are all now back at work, after having received support services.
